I’m always eager to set myself goals, challenges and resolutions for a new year, which is exactly what I did last year for 2022. So it made sense to set myself some gardening goals for 2023. Just things that I want to work towards, habits I want to form and ideas that I want to make into reality. Goals and resolutions are a great way of keeping stock of how far you’ve come and give you a sense of purpose moving forward.

My gardening resolutions for 2023 are not definite, set-in-stone type goals. They are more an idea, a generalised overview of what I want my year to look like in terms of my garden. What do I want to achieve in 2023? How do I want to feel at the end of it? What new habits do I want to form to make my gardening life easier and more manageable?

Reflecting on 2023:

I think it’s always important to reflect on the previous year. it’s important to look at how far you have come and how much you have achieved in order to know where to go next. Looking back also reminds you of all the things that went right instead of remembering what went wrong. My pumpkin archway felt like a disaster at the beginning of spring, but in the Autumn it became my pride and joy!

I love thinking about all those successful surprise harvests as well, the ones you forgot happened along the way.

My Goals for 2023:

These are some of my goals for 2023. But that’s not all I want to work towards. Really I want to work towards having a better relationship with my garden in general. I want to learn to take time out to actually enjoy the space I’ve created, to work harder to find interesting recipes for the crops I harvest and to take a step back if I find it becoming a chore.

Gardening is my therapy, my favourite hobby, but it is also hard work. I love that about it, but there needs to be a balance between the two or I will lose motivation again.

What are your gardening goals for 2023? I’d love to hear them in the comments below!

Happy 2023 everyone 🙂
