My garden is officially in the depth of winter. It held on for a little while longer than I was expecting. The rudbeckia was the last flower to fall, but still looked pretty right up until the flower heads fell off! I think, because its a new garden and I started it so late in the season, everything was a little out of sync. The plants were used to the all year round conditions of the garden centre where they were patiently catered for in their perfectly conditioned pots. So when they were let loose in my new garden, they weren’t quite sure what to do!

I think by next year they will have settled a little more and I can expect my garden to follow the rules of the seasons a little more thoroughly!

Winter is beautiful, and it’s been a real joy to watch my garden transform over the past few months. Here are some pictures of my winter garden:

Pots filled with spring bulbs, eagerly awaiting to burst from the soil!
The first Rudbeckia to fall to the winter
A calm, dying back flower bed
Asters which I didn’t cut back as I was so interested in their feathery seed pods!
The prunus tree going bald! Also, lots of hidden tulips and daffodils waiting under the soil!
My new planter, filled with spring bulbs. So excited to see them bloom!
